Alfalfa+ combines the natural properties of the tried-and-tested forage crops alfalfa and green oats. This mixture provides the concentrate ration with valuable crude fibre and high-quality protein – palatable and naturally low in starch, sugar and fructan – for more texture in the feed trough.
The benefits of alfalfa and green oats
The combination of alfalfa and green oats brings together the benefits of both plants. Alfalfa has long been valued as a source of protein in horse feed. It is rich in crude fibre and low in starch, sugar and fructan. For green oats, the oat plant is harvested before the grains in the panicles have fully developed. This produces a low-starch, high-crude-fibre alternative to traditional oats.
Alfalfa+ complements grain-heavy feeding plans, optimises their calcium-to-phosphorus ratio and balances out rations that are lower in crude fibre and protein. Both components are grown in Bavaria, derived from the whole plant and gently hot-air-dried – resulting in a natural feed with no additives.
Versatile use in everyday stable life
Alfalfa+ fits into a wide variety of feeding regimes: whether for competition, breeding or recovery training – it can be easily mixed into concentrated feed or used as a texturally rich meal in the trough to supplement roughage. The high-fibre texture helps to slow down feed intake, making it suitable even for horses that tend to eat too quickly. Thanks to its low starch, sugar and fructan content, it is also suitable for sensitive horses that should be fed a diet as low in carbohydrates as possible. At the same time, the taste is a real hit – many horses are very keen on the mixture of alfalfa and green oats. This makes Luzerne+ a natural part of everyday life in the stable.
