Camelids such as llamas and alpacas, originally native to South America, are now also widespread in our part of the world. Whilst in their native habitat they are mainly kept as pack animals and for their wool, here an increasing number of hobby keepers are taking a keen interest in these species. When feeding them, it is important to bear in mind that, as herbivores, camelids require high-quality crude fibre to maintain a healthy digestive system. This is where ProKamelid Basis from AGROBS comes in.
ProKamelid Basis is a cereal- and molasses-free muesli designed for a natural and species-appropriate diet for camelids. With its particularly high content of structured crude fibre, this feed from AGROBS promotes the health of the rumen system. It stimulates saliva production, maintains the balance of the stomach’s microbial flora, and encourages rumination and contraction of the forestomach.
Ingredients rich in vital nutrients, such as flowers, leaves, root vegetables, sunflower seeds, linseeds and black cumin, enhance the feed. As a healthy addition, ProKamelid Basis contains the bark of the South American lapacho trees, which is particularly palatable to the animals.
ProKamelid Basis is the ideal supplement to hay, forage straw and/or fresh meadow grass. It is also suitable as a healthy incentive feed or treat, thereby helping to strengthen the bond with humans. Thanks to its low starch and sugar content, ProKamelid Basis is suitable for daily feeding. We recommend adding a suitable mineral supplement to ensure the animals’ nutritional needs are met.

The recommended daily feed intake depends on the quality and quantity of the roughage (hay, straw, meadow grass), the animal’s activity level (maintenance, growth, breeding, trekking, etc.) and its health and nutritional status.
- New World camelids: 100–300 g/day
- Old World camelids: 500–800 g/day
AGROBS® recommends: introducing the feed gradually. Where necessary – during a change of diet, for hasty eaters and older animals, animals with dental problems and in cases of low water intake – we advise moistening or soaking the feed.
