Teff grass (Latin: Eragrostis tef) is an ancient cultivated plant native to East Africa. Whilst native grasses tend to store increasing amounts of sugar and fructan in hot or dry conditions, teff grass instead produces valuable leaf mass. As a result, it remains consistently low in sugar and fructan whilst remaining rich in vital nutrients. This natural stability makes AGROBS® TEFFCOBS a reliable and future-proof feed – even in the face of increasingly dry summers.Teff grass from specialised Bavarian cultivation
AGROBS® has been successfully growing teff grass on Bavarian fields since 2024. This demanding cultivation process requires experience, a delicate touch and suitable site conditions. As a result, a valuable forage crop that has hitherto been scarcely used in Europe is now available regionally for the first time.
Versatile use thanks to high digestibility
Whether for leisure horses or senior horses – Teffcobs are highly versatile: the soft, tender stalks of this so-called ‘love grass’ provide healthy crude fibre, are easily digestible and are naturally almost starch-free – making them particularly gentle on the stomach. As a single-ingredient feed, it is suitable for exclusion diets, allergies and intolerances. Thanks to its favourable calcium-to-phosphorus ratio, it is also a well-tolerated roughage or concentrated feed for horses that are sensitive to high levels of calcium. At the same time, the tasty cobs are easy to soak and are therefore also a good choice for older horses with reduced chewing ability.Responsible feeding – today and tomorrow
AGROBS® TEFFCOBS are a valuable alternative for horses that require a low-sugar, low-fructan diet. As a low-sugar grass variety grown in Bavaria, they combine innovation, regional sourcing and digestibility – for a natural and needs-based nutrient supply for sensitive horses – today and in the future.APPLICATION:

- as part of the roughage ration to balance out hay that is particularly high in sugar and fructan
- as a complete roughage substitute (following individual feeding advice)

- To supplement roughage: 1 kg of teff cobs replaces 1 kg of hay
- as roughage (100% hay substitute, following individual feeding advice): approx. 1.5 kg daily per 100 kg of target body weight
- as an alternative to conventional concentrated feed
- Soak 1 kg in 1.5 to 3 litres of water

AGROBS® recommends: introduce gradually and always soak the cobs.
