Biotin, also known as vitamin H, is essential for the formation of keratin, which is an essential component of horn, hair and skin. It supports the keratinisation process in the skin and hair and strengthens the hoof horn.
Hoof growth in adult horses averages around 8 to 9 mm per month, which is why biotin supplements should be used over a period of several months. Older horses in particular need to be given additional biotin, as the quality of the horn deteriorates with age.
The consequences of biotin deficiency can cause damage to the skin, hair and hoof horn and cause inflammation and cracks in the skin and hoof horn. An additional supply of biotin has been shown to promote hoof growth and improve horn quality.
Zinc plays a key role in the horse's metabolism. A lack of zinc can impair keratin production and lead to thickening of the coronet band and weak, brittle or deformed hoof horn.
Free from sugar and cereals, therefore also suitable for horses with metabolic disorders (such as PSSM).
